Waterfalls of Uttaradit

Mae Phun · Phu Soi Dao · Khlong Tron · finest in the rainy season

Uttaradit hides a variety of waterfalls in its forests, hills and national parks — from a rocky, swimmable falls in the heart of Laplae town to multi-tiered cascades deep in the parks. This article rounds up only the verified waterfalls, with the best months to visit and their distances.

Where Are Uttaradit's Waterfalls?

Uttaradit's waterfalls are scattered across the districts with mountains and lush forest. The closest is Mae Phun Waterfall in Laplae district, about 20 km from Hua Dum Resort — swimmable and family-friendly. The waterfalls inside the national parks lie deeper in the forest and suit hikers better.

In Phu Soi Dao National Park, in Nam Pat district, the Phu Soi Dao Waterfall has up to five tiers (Phu Soi Dao, Sakao Duean, Muean Fan, Kannika and Suphaphon), flowing all year round. Ton Sak Yai National Park (formerly Khlong Tron Waterfall National Park) has the Khlong Tron, Huai Niam and Kok Mon Kaeo waterfalls.

In general the waterfalls are at their fullest and finest from the rainy season into early winter (roughly July to November); in the dry season the water can run low. Before heading to any park waterfall, always check the trail conditions and opening hours with the park, as some routes require a hike and may close during heavy rain.

A Round-Up of Verified Uttaradit Waterfalls

1

Mae Phun Waterfall (Laplae district)

A multi-tiered rock waterfall, made by laying concrete so water from the high hills cascades down looking much like a natural falls — clear, cool and safe to swim in, ideal for families. Open roughly 06:00–17:30, about 20 km from the resort. Read on in our Mae Phun Waterfall article.

2

Phu Soi Dao Waterfall, five tiers (Nam Pat district)

In Phu Soi Dao National Park, with five tiers (Phu Soi Dao, Sakao Duean, Muean Fan, Kannika, Suphaphon), flowing all year round, near the start of the climb up to the three-needle pine meadow. Read on in our Phu Soi Dao National Park article.

3

Khlong Tron Waterfall (Ton Sak Yai National Park)

Also called Huai Pong Waterfall, a medium-sized multi-tiered falls from the Khlong Tron stream. There are two: the first has about 4 tiers and is around 20 m high, the other around 30 m high — in Ton Sak Yai National Park (formerly Khlong Tron Waterfall National Park).

4

Huai Niam & Kok Mon Kaeo Waterfalls

Also within Ton Sak Yai National Park, set amid lush forest and suited to nature-trekking. Check the trails and your readiness with park rangers before heading in.

Catch the waterfalls at their best

Water is fullest and finest from the rainy season into early winter. Avoid days of heavy rain, when the water may run muddy and trails get slippery. Bring non-slip shoes and allow extra travel time, and for deep-forest waterfalls, go during the day and head back before dark.
