Uttaradit in 3 Days 2 Nights

Laplae–Sirikit Dam–Phraya Phichai–Nam Phi iron, at an easy pace

Want to cover Laplae, the city and the natural sights of Uttaradit without rushing? Three days and two nights is the perfect answer. We've mapped a route with a full day in Laplae on day one, Sirikit Dam and the town of Phraya Phichai on day two, and Nam Phi iron plus the fruit market and souvenirs before heading home on day three — staying two nights at Hua Dum Resort in Laplae as a single base, with no need to change hotels.

Why 3 Days 2 Nights Lets You See More of Uttaradit

Uttaradit's sights fall into three broad groups: the Laplae zone (Wat Phra Thaen, the town gate, Mae Phun waterfall, Mon Laplae and weaving), which you can loop in a single day; the Sirikit Dam and Phraya Phichai city zone, farther out in a different direction; and the Nam Phi iron and fruit-market zone, best caught on the way home. With two nights, you can split these into one zone per day at an easy pace.

The heart of this plan is using Hua Dum Resort in Laplae as a single base for the whole trip. Leave your bags in one place, head out in the morning and return in the evening — no checking out and back in every day. The resort is well placed for a short hop into the Laplae zone and an easy drive to Sirikit Dam (about 60 km) or Uttaradit city (about 12–15 km). Rooms start at 450–600 baht, so even two nights keeps the budget in check.

Coming from Bangkok (about 491 km, ~6 hrs drive) or Chiang Mai (about 270 km, ~4 hrs drive)? Set off early on day one, reach Laplae around midday and start exploring right away. Read every way to get here in our "How to Get to Uttaradit–Laplae" article. For fit hikers with time to spare, you could swap one day to climb Phu Soi Dao instead — but Phu Soi Dao is a 6.5 km hike up the mountain with a night camped at the top, not a morning-to-evening trip, so it's a different kind of add-on to this plan (read the details in our "Phu Soi Dao National Park" article).

The Uttaradit 3-Day 2-Night Plan, Day by Day

1

Day 1 — A full day in Laplae

Reach Laplae around midday, check in at Hua Dum Resort, then start at Wat Phra Thaen Sila At (about 3 km from the resort), followed by the Laplae City Gate and the legend of the town where lying is forbidden. In the afternoon head up to Mae Phun waterfall (about 20 km) or Mon Laplae for the view and woven cloth. End the day with local food like khao phan phak, mee phan and khao kaep (see our "One Day in Laplae" article).

2

Night 1 — Hua Dum Resort

Rest your first night at Hua Dum Resort, with clean rooms from 450–600 baht in the heart of Laplae, about 3 km from a 7-Eleven. Save your energy for the farther spots the next day.

3

Day 2 — Sirikit Dam & the town of Phraya Phichai

Set off a little early for Sirikit Dam, the largest earth-fill dam in Thailand (about 60 km, ~1 hr drive). Take in the dam crest and reservoir, or take a raft trip. In the afternoon, stop in Uttaradit city on the way back to pay respects at the Phraya Phichai Dap Hak monument in front of the Provincial Hall (about 15 km), then return to the resort for your second night (see our "Sirikit Dam" and "Phraya Phichai Dap Hak" articles).

4

Day 3 — Nam Phi iron & the fruit market before heading home

Check out and stop at the Nam Phi iron site, the legendary steel used to forge Phraya Phichai's sword (Thong Saen Khan district, ~55 km) — see the iron pits, the museum and pick up souvenirs. Before heading home, stop at Hua Dong fruit market (about 8 km from the resort) for seasonal fruit and gifts to take with you (read on in our "Nam Phi Iron" article).

5

Pick the season to match what you want

For fresh fruit, come in May–Jul (Long-Lin durian) or Aug–Sep (langsat-longkong); for cool, comfortable weather, come in Nov–Feb. See how to pick the month in our "Best Time to Visit Laplae–Uttaradit" article.
