Uttaradit in 2 Days 1 Night
Laplae–Sirikit Dam–Phraya Phichai, all in 2 days
Want to cover Laplae, Sirikit Dam and the town of Phraya Phichai in Uttaradit? Two days and one night is just right. We've mapped a route that takes Laplae at an easy pace on day one, with an overnight stay in the heart of town at Hua Dum Resort, then tackles the farther spots like Sirikit Dam and Nam Phi iron on day two — no rushing, and no doubling back.
Why 2 Days 1 Night Works Best
Uttaradit's main sights fall into two zones: the Laplae zone (temples, the town gate, the waterfall, weaving) sits close together and can be looped in half a day to a full day, while Sirikit Dam and Nam Phi iron are farther out, about an hour's drive one way. An overnight stay in the middle lets you do both zones without wearing yourself out.
The heart of this plan is staying overnight in Laplae. Hua Dum Resort is well placed for a short hop into the Laplae zone and an easy drive out to Sirikit Dam or Uttaradit city. Rooms start at 450–600 baht — ideal for family trips and budget travellers who want a clean bed at a friendly price.
Coming from Bangkok (about 491 km, ~6 hrs drive)? Set off early, reach Laplae around midday, explore the Laplae zone through the afternoon and evening, then save your energy for a full day at Sirikit Dam on day two, stopping at the town of Phraya Phichai and Nam Phi iron on the way back.

The Uttaradit 2-Day 1-Night Plan, Stop by Stop
Day 1 afternoon — Wat Phra Thaen & the Laplae City Gate
Reach Laplae around midday and start at Wat Phra Thaen Sila At, the town's royal temple (about 3 km from Hua Dum Resort), then on to the Laplae City Gate for photos and the legend of the town where lying is forbidden. Both are free to enter (see our "Wat Phra Thaen Sila At" and "Laplae City Gate" articles).
Day 1 evening — Mae Phun waterfall or Mon Laplae + local food
If you've still got energy and daylight, stop at Mae Phun waterfall (a tiered limestone falls ~20 km away) or head up Mon Laplae for the view and to browse local woven cloth. Round off the evening with Laplae food like khao kaep and mee phan (read our "Mae Phun Waterfall" and "Mon Laplae & Local Weaving" articles).
Overnight — Hua Dum Resort, Laplae
Rest for a night at Hua Dum Resort, with clean rooms from 450–600 baht in the heart of Laplae, about 3 km from Wat Phra Thaen. Sleep well and save your energy for the farther spots the next day. Message us on LINE at lin.ee/sgQXBb1 or call 099-5029339 to book ahead, especially in high season.
Day 2 morning — Sirikit Dam
Set off a little early for Sirikit Dam, the largest earth-fill dam in Thailand (about 60 km from the resort, ~1 hr drive). Take in the vast reservoir, photograph the dam crest, or take a raft trip for the scenery — give it the morning through to midday (read on in our "Sirikit Dam" article).
Day 2 afternoon — the Phraya Phichai Dap Hak monument
On the way back, stop in Uttaradit city to pay respects at the Phraya Phichai Dap Hak monument, the town's hero (in front of the Provincial Hall, about 15 km from the resort) — an unmissable bit of history (see our "Phraya Phichai Dap Hak Monument" article).
Day 2 to finish — Nam Phi iron
Before heading home, stop at the Nam Phi iron site, the legendary steel used to forge Phraya Phichai's sword — see the iron pits, the museum and sword-forging demonstrations (Thong Saen Khan district, ~55 km from the resort). Pick up a Nam Phi iron souvenir to round off the trip (read on in our "Nam Phi Iron" article).
Spend the Night Mid-Trip at Hua Dum Resort
