One Day in Laplae — What to See

One Day in Laplae — What to See

A plan to do Laplae, Uttaradit in a single day

Only have a single day but want to make the most of Laplae? We've put together an unhurried one-day route — from an ancient temple and the legendary city gate to a tiered waterfall and a weaving viewpoint, finishing with local food — all within an easy drive. Perfect for families and the easy-going.

How to Plan a Smooth One Day in Laplae

Laplae is a small district in a valley of Uttaradit, with its main sights close together — easy to loop around by car in a single day. We suggest leaving your accommodation a little early and starting at Wat Phra Thaen Sila At, the nearest stop (about 3 km from Hua Dum Resort), then working out to the further spots later in the morning.

Mornings suit the temples and the city gate, while the air is still cool and the light is lovely for photos. From late morning into the afternoon, head to Mae Phun waterfall and Mon Laplae, which take a bit more driving uphill. Save the local food for lunch or the early evening before you head back.

If you've driven a long way or want to take it slow, we suggest staying a night in Laplae rather than driving straight back that evening. Hua Dum Resort sits right on the route, with rooms from ฿450–600 — message us on LINE to book ahead. That way you can wake up fresh the next morning to continue on to Uttaradit city or Sirikit Dam with ease.

A One-Day Laplae Plan, Stop by Stop

1

Morning — Wat Phra Thaen Sila At

Start the day at Wat Phra Thaen Sila At, the royal landmark temple of Laplae, just about 3 km from Hua Dum Resort (~5 min drive). Pay respects to the Phra Thaen Sila At and admire the old architecture — allow about 30–45 minutes (read more in our "Wat Phra Thaen Sila At" article).

2

Late morning — Laplae City Gate

Drive on a short way to the Laplae City Gate, the town's signature photo landmark, and hear the legend of "Laplae, the town where lying is forbidden." Entry is free; allow about 20–30 minutes for photos (see more in our "Laplae City Gate" article).

3

Before noon — Mae Phun waterfall

Head to Mae Phun waterfall, a beautiful tiered limestone falls in the heart of Laplae (about 20 km from the resort, ~30 min drive). Play in the water, take in the view and shoot photos — it's fullest and finest in the rainy season into early winter. Entry is free (read on in our "Mae Phun Waterfall" article).

4

Lunch — Laplae local food

Break for lunch with Laplae's famous bites — khao kaep, Laplae mee phan and khao phan phak — at the shops in town. Refuel and you're set for the afternoon (in durian season around May–Jul, don't miss GI Long-Lin Laplae durian — see our "Laplae Fruit" article).

5

Afternoon — Mon Laplae & local woven cloth

Head up to Mon Laplae for a view over the town in its valley (about 20 km from the resort, ~30 min drive), and stop to browse and buy teen jok woven cloth as a souvenir — a closing stop that gives you both the view and a keepsake (read on in our "Mon Laplae & Local Weaving" article).

6

To finish — stay overnight at Hua Dum Resort

Rather than driving straight back that evening, rest comfortably for a night at Hua Dum Resort, Laplae, with rooms from ฿450–600, about 3 km from Wat Phra Thaen. Wake refreshed to keep travelling the next day — to extend into a second day, see our "Uttaradit in 2 Days 1 Night" plan. Message us on LINE at lin.ee/sgQXBb1 or call 099-5029339 to book ahead.
