The Legend of Laplae

City of Widows · No lying allowed · The legendary hidden town

Laplae isn't just the name of a district — it's a legend told down the generations: a story of a mysterious town outsiders can scarcely enter, inhabited only by women, with one rule that must never be broken: "no lying." This article introduces the legend of Laplae and the places where you can still feel that story today.

How the Legend of Laplae Is Told

As the legend goes, a young man went into the forest to hunt and lost his way into a mysterious town deep in a valley — a place invisible from the outside and hard to enter or leave. Everyone in the town was a young woman, so it came to be called the "City of Widows." The young man married a local woman and lived there happily.

This town had just one iron rule: "no lying," for honesty was what sustained it. One day his wife went out on an errand, leaving her husband to mind their crying child. When she returned and asked whether the child had cried, the husband gave an evasive answer that wasn't quite true. That lie weakened the spell that protected the town; he was made to leave and could never find his way back. And so Laplae "vanished" from sight.

For this reason the word "Laplae" came to mean a town that is hidden, concealed, not easily seen — fitting the real landscape of surrounding valleys, morning mist in some seasons, and access through a mountain pass. The legend became the district's signature, passed on to later generations through its various landmarks.
