The Fruit of Laplae

The Fruit of Laplae

GI Long-Lin Laplae durian · Langsat & longkong · In season May–Jul

Laplae is a wonderland of fruit. In fruit season the whole town turns fragrant and sweet with durian, langsat and longkong, picked fresh from the hillside orchards.

GI Long-Lin Laplae Durian

"Long Laplae" and "Lin Laplae" durian are native fruits registered as geographical indications (GI) of Uttaradit, growing to top quality only within Laplae district, Mueang Uttaradit district and Tha Pla district.

Long Laplae is round-oval with deep-yellow flesh that's sticky and fine (not mushy), sweet and rich with a gentle aroma. Lin Laplae is cylindrical, with pale-yellow, dry, creamy flesh, shrivelled seeds and a mild smell — a favourite with Thai and foreign visitors alike.

Besides durian, Laplae also has langsat, longkong, mangosteen and Huai Mun pineapple, ripening in turn so there's something to taste through nearly the whole fruit season.
