Best Time to Visit Laplae & Uttaradit
Which season is loveliest · Fruit season May–Sep · Cool & comfortable Nov–Feb
When is the best time to visit Laplae and Uttaradit? Here's the short answer first: if you want fresh fruit straight from the orchard, come between May and September (Long-Lin durian in May–Jul, followed by langsat and longkong in Aug–Sep). If you'd rather have cool, comfortable weather with the waterfalls still flowing, come during Nov–Feb. The mid-rainy months (Jun–Oct) bring lush green scenery and full waterfalls, but plan around the rain. This guide breaks it down season by season so you can choose based on what you're after.
What Laplae & Uttaradit Are Like in Each Season
Uttaradit sits in Thailand's lower north and has three distinct seasons. The hot season (Mar–May) brings central-and-northern-style heat, and durian season starts toward the end of it. The rainy season (Jun–Oct) brings showers in spells, lush green countryside, full and beautiful Mae Phun waterfall, and the province's main fruit harvest. The cool season (Nov–Feb) is pleasantly cool — especially up in the hills and in Laplae, which sits in a valley — and is the best time for getting outdoors.
Uttaradit's strength is its GI fruits, which ripen at different times, so you can come for fruit twice in a single year. Long Laplae and Lin Laplae durian ripen around May–Jul (peaking in June), while langsat and longkong follow around Aug–Sep. If you're a fruit lover, plan your trip to line up with one of these two windows. Read more in our "Laplae Durian Season" and "Uttaradit Langsat & Longkong" articles.
If fruit isn't your priority, the most comfortable time to travel is the cool season, Nov–Feb: cool air, gentle sun, perfect for temple visits, photographing the Laplae City Gate, heading up Mon Laplae, or visiting Sirikit Dam. It also coincides with the Phraya Phichai Dap Hak and Red Cross fair around January — festival lovers should check the calendar in our "Uttaradit Festivals & Events" article. And if you're after the hills and the naga-crest flowers at Phu Soi Dao, you'll need to come in the rainy season, Aug–Sep.

What You Get When — Choose by Season
Nov–Feb: cool & comfortable, best for the outdoors
Cool air and gentle sun make it ideal for walking around Wat Phra Thaen Sila At, photographing the Laplae City Gate, heading up Mon Laplae, and visiting Sirikit Dam. Mae Phun waterfall still has some water from the late rains, and January coincides with the Phraya Phichai Dap Hak and Red Cross fair in town.
May–Jul: Long-Lin Laplae durian season
High season for durian lovers. GI Long Laplae and Lin Laplae ripen naturally, peaking in June with plenty of top-quality fruit. Taste and buy straight from the hillside orchards or at Hua Dong Market (see our "Laplae Durian Season" article). The rains are starting by now, so bring an umbrella.
Aug–Sep: langsat-longkong season
Once durian wraps up, it's the turn of langsat and longkong, the province's prized GI fruits. September also brings the sweet langsat-longkong festival in town, and it's when the naga-crest flowers bloom at Phu Soi Dao for hikers (see our "Langsat & Longkong" and "Phu Soi Dao" articles).
Rainy season Jun–Oct: green scenery, full waterfalls
It rains in spells rather than all day. The upside is lush green nature, Mae Phun waterfall at its fullest and most beautiful, and it's fruit season. Plan some indoor options, check the forecast, and avoid heading up the hills on heavy-rain days.
Hot season Mar–May: durian starts late in the period
Typical hot-season weather — you can still travel, but avoid the midday sun and focus on temples, cafés and local food in town. The upside is fewer crowds than high season, and the first durians start trickling in by late May.
